We’ve got so much coming up over the next month or so, that we thought we would dedicate a whole blog post to all the great events and opportunities you can get involved with. From poetry readings to our national exhibition deadline, we hope there’s something for everyone!
Poetry Readings at Pallant House Gallery
When: Thursday 8 October (6-8pm) at Pallant House Gallery, 9 North Pallant, Chichester, PO19 1TJ
In collaboration with Disability Arts Online, a free evening of poetry readings will mark National Poetry Day and World Mental Health Day at Pallant House Gallery. Compered by poet, artist and Editor of Disability Arts Online, Colin Hambrook, the event will include readings from two invited poets; Vince Laws and Allan Sutherland, alongside eight open mic slots filled by local poets. Poet, artist, performer and campaigner Vince takes poetry off the page and puts it into paintings, text art, posters, films, concepts, installations and performances, and Allan’s work has always been about making heard the voices of disabled people.
Tickets are free, but must be booked. To book, please call Pallant House Gallery on 01243 774557. For more information please click here.

Deadline fast approaching for Radical Craft
When: 5pm, Friday 30 October
The deadline is fast approaching for submissions to our next national exhibition in collaboration with Craftspace. ‘Radical Craft: Alternative Ways of Making’ will showcase UK and international creativity by artists facing barriers to the art world. The works selected through the open call out will be displayed alongside pieces by historically renowned and invited contemporary and self-taught artists. The exhibition will launch at Pallant House Gallery in Chichester from 12 March – 12 June 2016, before touring nationally. Submissions are invited from UK based artists whose work is two or three dimensional and centres around craft processes. The term ‘craft’ covers a huge variety of things including: ceramics, furniture, glass, jewellery, leather, mechanical objects, metalwork, mixed media, textiles and forms of making linked to folk traditions. Click here for more information on how to submit.
Exhibit your work as part of a temporary lightbox installation
When: 5pm, Friday 6 November
We’ve teamed up with Bobby Baker’s pioneering Stratford-based arts and mental health organisation, Daily Life Ltd., and Bethlem Gallery to showcase extraordinary work by artists with personal experience of mental health issues. The group exhibition, focusing on the theme ‘Letting in the Light,’ will be made up of works selected through this open call out process, presented on stunning lightboxes in the centre of Stratford, East London. The show will launch in January 2016 and run until the end of March 2016. We’d like to see work submitted on the theme of ‘Letting in the Light.’ This could be work that encourages people to re-consider their preconceptions about health, or work that conveys a message or meaning that is important to you. Click here for information on how to submit.
